Fine Arts

Drawing from our belief that humanity, being made in God’s image, was always intended to create and explore reality through art, we offer a strong program that introduces students to how we might express the truth of the human experience in creative ways. This value is expressed on campus through Plays, Choral and Instrumental performances, and the Visual Arts, which include drawing, painting, ceramics, graphic design, and architectural design.

Additionally, our students compete as part of KSHSAA (Kansas State High School Activities Association) in each of the main areas listed above. This level of competition provides a healthy sense of competition that drives our students and programs toward excellence. We believe that these artistic expressions are vital parts of how we should understand our relationship to God and his world, as seen in our Fine Arts Department’s mission statement below.

God is the original master designer and creator and all beauty begins with Him. Man who was created in His image has been given the ability to produce and create art for the glorification of God and development of that ability is a form of stewardship of God’s gifts. However, through the Fall, sin entered the world and corrupted man’s ability to express himself artistically in a way that could honor God. This resulted in art centered on self and the fallen nature of the world. Regeneration through the work of the Holy Spirit creates a new life that is capable of once again glorifying God in any artistic endeavor. As students gain knowledge in the arts they can become discerning creators and consumers, understanding how art reflects worldviews.
