Upper School (Grades 7-12)

As a direct outgrowth of our worldview focused education from the lower school, our upper school students are challenged to move into new, appropriately challenging levels of scholarship and exciting student life opportunities in preparation for college and vocation after graduation.

During the 7th – 8th grade years, students take further steps toward engaging with culture through more formal training in literature, Bible, and comparative religions. They move into new challenges of mathematics with application opportunities in computers and Lego® robotics. They learn how to bring their history and civic training to life through Student Council, while receiving opportunities to explore science through course work with hands on experiments, science fairs and entry level invention projects. Advanced students who have qualifying scores and/or grades may elect to take advanced courses in Spanish and Mathematics that will push them into higher level academic tracks when they enter high school.

In addition to integrated academic and co-curricular opportunities, they experience an expanded opportunity to participate in Band and Choir, explore drama and forensics, and participate on athletic teams.

Our 9th-12th Grade students engage in a liberal arts based curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, expansive reading, and successful writing practices. Our desire is for our students to gain the ability to meaningfully interact with ideas from all worldviews in thoughtful ways that clearly demonstrate the clarity of the Christian worldview.

They have the opportunity to challenge themselves through Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and Dual Credit courses which can result in up to 24 hours of college credit prior to graduation. Interested students may choose from courses in computer programming, web design, graphic, ceramic, and other visual arts, print and online journalism, and a variety other elective courses. For students who are interested in pursuing training in the Fine Arts, KCC offers course work in Play Production, Jazz Band, General Choir, an audition based ensemble group (79th St. Singers), and co-curricular opportunities in Forensics and Debate.

In addition to our course offerings, students are able to pursue their interests and explore their academic skills through a variety of extra-curricular opportunities in addition to our numerous athletic teams. These extra-curricular opportunities include: Student Council, Student Leadership Institute, National Honors Society, Scholars Bowl, Student Mentoring, Peer Tutoring, Chapel Team, Student-Teacher Internships, and Class Officer Positions.

KCC students perform exceptionally well on the ACT and AP tests, and perform in the top quartile on the Stanford Achievement tests. These and other high performance markers are supported by the exceptional lists of highly ranked colleges and universities to which our students gain admission.

However, it is important to remember that education takes place in places other than the classroom as well. At KCC, our lively student life opportunities promote a strong sense of community and belonging among our students. Our full slate of Spiritual Life, extra-curricular activities, and social events offer students outlets for learning about how wisdom is practiced and character is lived.

If you are looking for a place that will help your student gain a strong foundation for enhanced academic achievement and social opportunities, all from a Christian worldview perspective, we would love to meet you. Please feel free to fill out our online inquiry form at your convenience.
